Can You Inject Mounjaro Straight From the Fridge?

Can You Inject Mounjaro Straight From the Fridge?
Can you inject Mounjaro cold straight from the fridge? Yes, you can. However, I personally find that it stings more when the medication is cold.
I keep my Mounjaro pens in the fridge. Before each injection, I usually take the pen out for around 30 minutes to let it come up to room temperature. I find the injection much more comfortable that way.
Does Mounjaro Need to Stay in the Fridge?
An important thing to remember is that once a Mounjaro pen reaches room temperature for the first time, you then have 30 days to use it.
From that point, it can be stored in a cupboard or press. It does not need to be returned to the fridge. It should be kept out of direct sunlight and stored below 30°C.
If you are using the pen for the standard four weekly injections, this should give you enough time to finish it within the 30-day window.
I still choose to keep mine in the fridge because that is what I have always done. I know exactly where it is and I know it is being stored safely.
What If You Are Spacing Out Your Mounjaro Doses?
Some people begin spacing out their injections when they reach maintenance. This means there may be more than seven days between each dose and the pen may be in use for longer than normal.
In that situation, you would need to consider the 30-day room-temperature window. You may need to inject the medication while it is still cold or take out the required amount using an insulin syringe.
Using an insulin syringe to remove medication from a Mounjaro pen is not part of the standard manufacturer instructions. Anyone considering this should understand the risks and speak to an appropriate healthcare professional.
What About the Mounjaro Golden Dose?
The same issue applies if you use the additional medication left inside the pen after the four standard doses, commonly referred to online as the “golden dose”.
Using this additional medication means that the pen could last for approximately five weeks. If you want to keep the pen within the 30-day room-temperature window, the timing of when it first reaches room temperature becomes important.
It is also worth remembering that the golden dose is not an official fifth dose included in the manufacturer’s instructions.
My Personal Routine
My own routine is straightforward. I store my Mounjaro in the fridge and take it out around 30 minutes before I plan to inject.
This allows it to warm slightly and I find it reduces the stinging I sometimes experience when injecting it cold.
After the injection, I return the pen to the fridge. That is simply my personal preference because it keeps my routine consistent and means I always know where the pen is stored.
The Main Point
You can inject Mounjaro straight from the fridge, but you may find that it stings more than an injection given at room temperature.
For standard weekly use, you can take the pen out before injecting and allow it to warm up slightly. Once it has reached room temperature, keep the 30-day usage period in mind.
Always follow the storage instructions supplied with your medication and speak to your pharmacist, doctor or prescribing provider if you are unsure about how your pen should be stored or used.
