Mounjaro: Which Dose Was Best For Me?

One of the questions I get asked most often is this: which Mounjaro dose worked best for me?
I understand why people ask. When you are starting Mounjaro, or thinking about moving up a dose, it is natural to want to know if there is a certain dose where everything suddenly clicks. People want to know if 5mg is where the weight loss really starts. Or if 7.5mg is the sweet spot. Or if 10mg or 15mg is where the real results happen.
For me, that was not really how it worked.
There was no magic dose.
I lost the most weight at the very start on 2.5mg and 5mg, but I do not see that as proof that those were the best doses. I was also at my heaviest then. When you are carrying more weight, it is very common for the weight to come off quicker at the beginning. As you get lighter, it naturally slows down.
That does not mean Mounjaro has stopped working. It does not always mean the dose is wrong. Sometimes it is just the normal pattern of weight loss.
My weight loss was never extreme. I did not have massive dramatic drops every week. It was more consistent than anything else. I kept showing up. I kept tracking. I kept training. I kept making better food choices. And the weight kept coming down over time.
Mounjaro worked for me on every dose.
It worked on 2.5mg. It worked on 5mg. It worked on 7.5mg. It worked on 10mg. It worked on 12.5mg. And it still works now on 15mg.
But I did move up every month.
Looking back, there were a few reasons for that. At the time, each dose was the same price, so part of me thought I might as well move up. I also did not have the level of support or guidance around me that I have now. I was figuring a lot of it out as I went along.
I also felt like it was wearing off towards the end of each month. When that happened, I would think, “Right, it must be time to move up.”
Now, looking back, I do wonder how much of that was physical and how much was in my head. When you know there is another dose available, it is very easy to convince yourself that you need it. That does not mean the feeling was not real, but I do think expectation can play a part.
That is one of the reasons I always say support matters. Having someone to talk things through with can stop you making every decision based only on fear, frustration or impatience.
I eventually got to 15mg, which is the highest dose. At that point, there was nowhere else to go. But even after being on 15mg for months, it has continued to work for me.
That is probably the biggest thing I have learned. The dose was never the whole answer. The dose helped, but the plan around it mattered more.
Mounjaro helped me control the food noise. It helped me feel in control around food. It gave me the chance to build habits that I had struggled with for years. But I still had to do the work with food, calories, protein, training and consistency.
For me, the best dose was not a number.
The best dose was the one that helped me stay consistent at that stage of the journey.
I know that sounds boring, but it is the truth. There was no one dose where everything suddenly changed. It was steady progress across the whole journey.
If you are on Mounjaro and wondering whether you need to move up, I would not automatically assume that a slower week or a stall means your dose is no longer working. I would look at hunger, food noise, calories, protein, movement, sleep and consistency first. And most importantly, speak to your provider before making any dose changes.
There is no prize for rushing to the highest dose.
For me, Mounjaro worked on every dose. There was no magic number. The real difference came from using the opportunity properly and building a plan I could actually stick to.
